OCEARCH is Heading to Europe: Expedition Save the Med
OCEARCH is traveling over 4,000 miles to explore European waters and study the Mediterranean white shark population. A study of this kind has never been done before.
We believe that in the summer and fall the white sharks in this region could be migrating out of the Mediterranean Sea to forage in eastern North Atlantic waters. This is why we will begin to collect data to solve the puzzle of the Mediterranean White Shark Population off the coasts of Spain, France and Ireland.
Access to our ocean giants is extremely challenging, and their movements and activities are largely unknown. Just one shark can help unlock the secrets of the Mediterranean white shark population and help us protect t...

The southeast US is an important overwintering area for white sharks and there are hints that these animals are reproductively active during this time. However, weather continues to be our biggest challenge when working in this region. We will continue to come back to the southeast to study mature animals in order to learn more about the western North Atlantic white shark's reproductive cycle a...

Was it caught near Cape Breton?
I wish OSEARCH could find a way to tag sharks without mangling their dorsal fin.
How exciting is this . Can't wait to see it happen . Thank you Ocearch
Very interesting. To bad there isn't something thats made or put in there chips after not seeing any pings that you can make it ping .something like the cellular deer cameras you can make them send you a picture buy hitting a button on there app. . Or tack the shark the whole time. Then battery life is going to be hard to keep up. Last fall duck hunting season I was out off cape island .off the cape island.i Had a big white shark chew my anchor line off ripped my small boat sideways till the rope parted.. I think it's pretty cool what you guys are doing I'd love to have some tag trackers myself haha.
why don't they just leave them alone...
17ft is 3 humans why does it look more like 2 human lengths?
Where is it now?
Is the tag stay on permanently,
Everyone on this team is amazing & very brave:
Since sharks don’t have licences, someone is driving them up the coast. We need to find that person and tell them to stop.
Is it nukumi or nugumi?
It's great what yall ty and do for research and conservation. But this shark being in this full Earth gravity, is crushing their flesh and their cells from the weight of their bodies. This causes embolisms, clots, and serious prolonged health issues for the rest of their lives. find a way to strap them in and keep them bouyant. Thanks.
I’m new to the team BEHIND OCEARCH. This video was extremely informative for me bc I can see the difference y’all are making. Fishing is not easy when it becomes a job! Lol 😂 Deadlines and commitments but I can agree that y’all are determined and gifted, so thank you for never giving up…except when Jimmy Buffet was on board…that’s an amazing memory there! And the fact that both Jimmy and Paul have passed on, they will live on in stories such as these moments you just shared!!! 🙏❤ I only came across the OCEARCH RUclips Channel today when I was using their Shark Tracker. I’ve had the app for a while but lately I’ve been looking for pings along the AL and FL Gulf Coast. Even though there’s been a lot of footage in the news from locals and tourists alike, they’ve been sharing their stories and images for well over a month of large sharks in ankle deep water, supposedly feeding on bait fish. I was surprised there’s none visiting or pinging on the AL/FL coast where these people are reporting more sharks. So I started watching the app and there’s tons of pings on the East Coast so you’d think some would have made their way into the panhandle by now, but not yet. I see 2 that’s been hanging out off the coast of Louisiana. They like it there or they’re trapped there bc they’re not budging. There is a young girl in the news now (I just found out today has a twin), who was the victim of a shark encounter. I know she had one leg and one arm amputated but she’s alive!!! I don’t understand why with all the coverage and yellow flags up, how this happened but that’s why they’re called accidents. On a happier note, I will be binge watching all the RUclips videos now that I’ve found a place to learn even more about OCEARCH adventures and the excruciating amount of time and pain you’ve dedicated yourself to learning and teaching. Thank you so much for the awesome video and I’ll look forward to future adventures! Be safe!!
Sending blessings to all of those who make up the amazing OCEARCH teams! I wish you all safety and strength on your new quest in the Mediterranean. I’m excited to see some progress ahead of you!!! Are there other projects you will be able to participate in while there? For example, if there’s turtles there would you be allowed to use SPOT or similar tags for studying and tracking? I’m sure there’s always tons of logistics and paperwork required for y’all to be there so hopefully they will allow you to study some of their aquatic life if the opportunity presented itself. 😊❤ Thank you for all your hard work!!!
Pls make some european merch like the US merch or even a swimsuit
Awesome, cant wait for it to happen, I hope we will find some healthy European GWS!
This is gonna be amazing I can already see it .personally I love sharks and I wonder if the differences across the same species will be large or small
@osearch When does it ALL Kick off ?? 🎉 Irish Sea GW's exist 🇮🇪
Thank you for your work, this is a like a dream come true for european shark lovers. If this expedition succeeds do you have plans to look for great whites in the actual waters of the mediterranean? It would be such a milestone to film one underwater off the coast of sicily or the adriatic!
❤
Really looking forward to this🦈, thank you ocearch im really glad your coming over to try and find white sharks here and there migratory patterns. Thank you for the awesome work you do studying these amazing predators, and wish you a safe trip too🦈❤️🙏
Good luck. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈 SHARK BYTES did a video about whether there are white sharks in the UK. Kris said the most likely spot to find them is Cornwall. SHARK BYTES also did a video about white sharks in the Mediterranean and why they are so rare in the Med.
Go, Chris❣️
I was recently in San Francisco and spoke to a guy who works in Alcatraz prison..We got into talking about Great Whites that are common around there especially with all the seals on pier 39 I mentioned the water temperature there, is near enough the same as in the Uk and he agreed that there’s got to be Great Whites in and around the UK waters .
Thanks!
88 days, I will be glued to this channel
Once they were all the way into the mediterranean up to the croatian coasts and of course southern Italy Sicily! But they were all killed by these hostile tribes residing these areas, the total shark extermination to attract tourism :// I wonder why they didn´t have chained whites same as they chained the bears noses to wander around with them continuously abusing these animals openly visible for everyone same as they abuse the hominids in their surrounding!! Honestly the sharks in the meds were just some of their genocide victims but no matter if animal or human these cannibal cavemen have no mercy whatsoever °°
"taking all the information you learned about white sharks of the US". Totally blowing off all the great white shark info you learned about white sharks off Canada.
Just downloaded the app to track the shark’s OBSESSED 😍
I'm so jealous... You are so so lucky to have had this wonderful opportunity to learn and learn how to help . What am amazing opportunity to win a sweepstakes of such magnitude.

SeaWorld ? 🤢
Absolutely fantastic, the UK welcomes you with open arms despite what out crap government say, the preservation of our sea life should be out top priority.
She is soooo cute 🥰
Love you all at Ocearch! U guys do such an amazing job to help and protect those sharks out there. Want to see more videos of this! Keep reeling them in guys. We need more instead of the older ones! Much love from Las Vegas ❤️
I'm not that much of a GW sharks fan, but I have to say that Katherine is a beauty 😍 I'm more of a tiger, Thresher, oceanic whitetips, Hammerheads and Blue sharks fan 💙 😀 😉
I hope you find one near Ireland. I remember seeing a basking shark breach out of the water 3 times on the west coast of Ireland in achill island 10 years ago. There was a seal swimming nearby and it ran onto the beach & looked out to sea anxiously. I feel it was aware of great whites nearby & didn’t want to take the chance in case the shark wasn’t a basking shark.
Wait, you are not entering Mediterranean Sea at all, just Bay of Biscay?
@@Alan07881 Yes, I did. It is clear they only plan to visit Bay of Biscay and UK.
Really looking forward to hear about the Great Whites over here. Thanks for making this! Will be so exciting! 🦈🦈🦈🦈
Great news!👍🦈
This will go down in history when you tag a white shark from this region and observe its migratory patterns to areas never previously understood. Keep up the great work, 88 days and counting 🦈
almost 5.5 metres? wow😮 big enough love this crew good luck to the future 🦈👊✌️ really hope and wish everyone sharks still alive
one issue that shark doesn't look near to 17 ft?
